Unstable WLAN connection...

Visiting a new Toshiba Satellite laptop C660 I was confronted with an uncooperative wireless network (WLAN). The desired network (SSID) was into the list of available networks and while connecting to the network, the networkkey (WPA2/AES) was accepted. The problems began only then ...

While browsing the Internet, the wireless connection was interrupted every now and than and and the famous exclamationmark appeared in the system tray to indicate that the connection had no or limited access. After some time the connection recovered automatically to disappear again sometime later.

The ultimate cause of this behaviour was a problem in the ability of the laptop to save power consumption.

In the power plan the power saving mode of the wireless network adapter was set to "Medium" when using the battery.

After this setting was changed to "Maximum Performance" the network connection was functioning properly again.

The strange part of the story is that these are made when the factory settings of the Toshiba laptop are installed.

From a supplier like Toshiba I would expect that the standards are  thoroughly tested before being they are being installed on their laptops.

For now at least there is at least one problem less in this world....
